| alisha @ nite - botox party
Now that I have recently entered my thirties, I am beginning to see how things are changing with age. Many of my friends are in their mid to late thirties, and when the subject of a Botox party came up, many of them started to get really excited about it. I cant say that I was completely surprised at this, as I do hang with a creative crowd with which taste, style, and vanity run rampant. Admittedly, I am right there with them, but I personally have no interest in getting any plastic surgery until it becomes absolutely necessary. Until then, I thought it would be fantastic to go to their first Botox party as an observer and write about it for all of you. The party was executed by Miss Lynda, who is a Trannyshack regular, a photographer, a Burlesque performer (named Lily LaRouge), and is a creative type who makes costumes with rhinestones and latex among other things
and oh yeah, she also drives a hearse. She knows a plethora of interesting people, and she put the word out to see who wanted to come get injected over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Among the guests were a Makeup Artist, a Drag Queen, a couple of Bartenders, Burlesque Performers, DJs, a Graphic Artist, a Singer, an Aids Activist, a Hairdresser, and myself- a Publicist, Writer, Beauty Consultant, sometime Bartender and Club Promoter. In other words, it was a fun crowd. Even the Dr. said so. He said it was the most interesting crowd hes had at a Botox party. The Ladies who Lunch have got nothing on us. It would be a safe bet that ten or fifteen years ago, many of the people attending this Botox party were getting their first body peircings and tattoos to express their personalities throught their looks. As time marches on, they are taking different risks that generations before them may also see as cutting edge or even dangerous. How someone will perceive this new Botox phenomenon all depends on who they are, what they value, how they want to look, and how cautious or ballsy they may be. My friends are ballsy, and maybe even a little crazy. At this particular Sunday evenings Botox Extravaganza, everyone sat around drinking wine and champagne and laughing, but a few of the participants seemed a little worried about needles. As a mere observer, it seemed to me the needles were the least of anyones worries. The size of the needles this Doctor used to administer the Botox were even smaller than Acupuncture needles. I should also note that the Doctor offered all the patients a topical cream to wear for a few minutes before the procedure to numb the area. No one seemed to feel any pain at all, and it all went by in just a couple of minutes. I was a little surprised that I didnt hear anyone ask any questions. A few of the participants had done this before, and the Hostess, Miss Lynda had preped everyone about it, so I suspect that this is why there werent any questions. The Doctor asked if anyone had questions as soon as he arrived, so I asked him if he was Board Certified. He said he was. My mother seemed concerned about that, as there have been countless reports on news shows about Botox nightmares. Lionel Richies ex-wife was recently in the news for getting arrested for a Botox party that wasnt on the up and up. And we have all seen how some people end up going overboard with plastic surgery like for instance, Micheal Jackson
but I wont even go there. My concerns about Botox are mostly about how much research has been done, and what the after-effects could be many years later. Also, at a Botox Party where you have not really checked out the Doctor thororughly, how the hell do you know if he really knows what hes doing, or even what he is injecting you with? Luckily, I dont need to worry about such things because I was just there for fun. Everything went well, and everyone seemed happy with their results when I inquired around a few weeks later. I did hear of 2 minor problems with 2 different participants though. Apparently it is not uncommon for a blood vessel around the outer corner of the eye area to occasionally get pricked by the needle, which in some cases, may cause a black eye for a few days. I heard this happened to 2 of the 5 people who participated. From what the hostess tells me though, everyone was pleased with their results. |
