The Turbo A.C.'s
Automatic

Gearhead Records

$$$

Those guys are touring all the time. Seriously, all the time. But somehow they managed it to find a tiny space in their packed schedule and threw out a new record. They already worked with big names like Rogert Miret and this time Blag Dahlia (Dwarves) produced their record.

The Turbo A.C.'s sticked to their own specific sound on „Automatic". No big experiments, a lot of „oh oh" and „heeyo" refrains, fast punkrock songs and surf guitar parts.

I personally think that this is one of their best records so far and so they could keep up the high standart they had set with their first few records.

Track listing: mafioso — nightmare — automatic — collision course — perfect crime — apache — future — substance — way of the devil — denied — face of disaster — desperate

Nightmare and Automatic are definitely the hits on that record. But the other songs are great, too.

So both thumbs up for the guys from New York City!

But let’s hear what Michael Dolan has to say about the new record:

Club, Zwischenfall in Bochum, Germany

Sabine: The new record seems to be closer to the original Turbo A.C.'s sound. It seems more convincing to me in a way than.. let’s say.. the last two records. How come?

Michael: I think from working with each other so much the last few years. We got very comfortable with each other as musicians. So it was very easy for us to produce what we produced. Actually we were rushed in the studio. We had only 2 or 3 days. Maybe.

Sabine: Do you like being on Gearhead (gearheadrecords.com) or would you like to change?

Michael: I hope we don’t have to change. So far so good I would say. The record just came out in America. The first week of May.

Sabine: Why did you put a fake tattoo in the CD box?

Michael: I don’t know really. Well, we’ve seen real tattoos on this tour. We met a girl in Berlin who had the tattoo right here (poiting at the middle of his chest). And she was showing it to everybody. And it’s on our website. I think it was Kevin’s idea to have the people that come and follow us around become part of the crew by putting a tattoo on. I don’t know. I like it. It’s fun. I don’t have that tattoo. I need to get that tattoo. Right here (pointing at his wrist). Where I got some space left. So why should somebody who isn’t in the band have that tattoo and I don’t. I have seen a lot of them so I need to get one myself.

Sabine: Can you name a couple of bands that got you playing?

Michael: Me personally?

Sabine: Uhm yes, because you’re the only one who’s here.

Michael: Hello I’m Michael. I’m a virgo. My favourite colour is blue. Oh, I’m sorry... uhmm.. Motörhead!

Sabine: So you guys like the Misfits, too, obviously.

Michael: Oh yeah, actually Kevin and I have done Misfits covers on Halloween in New York City. Get dressed up and go out and play a few Misfits songs. And I’ve done it with some other guys. Yesterday we did it with Zoli (California United, Ignite) who was actually in some reincarnation of the 2000 Misfits. So it was great.

Sabine: What are your plans for the near future?

Michael: We’re just gonna stay on the road as long as we can. When we come back in America in two weeks we gonna tour the east coast then we gonna come back to Europe and do some festivals and then hopefully we’ll be able to tour America again. We’ll try to get on with a bigger American band so we can get exposed to more kids. Hopefully we’ll stay out and keep doing what we do.

Sabine: You like touring in Europe? Is there a difference between touring in Europe and America?

Michael: I love touring. Touring in America is really difficult. I prefer touring in Europe because there’s more appreciation for music. And everybody, people who put on the shows, the promoters, people who make fanzines and people who come to our shows.. it’s just much more. In America everybody has a very short attention span. They watch too much TV and eat too much food.

Sabine: Do you think that eating too much food has something to do with a short attention span???

Michael: Yeah, I missed your concert because I was eating too much food and fell asleep in front of the TV.

Sabine: Any last words? Anything to add?

Michael: What can I possibly add?! Uhmm.. actually I have a copy of that Coolgrrrls minizine that you gave me and there are a lot of people in the fanzine that I know like Kitty Kowalski when I did the Misfits show she did my make up. She’s a good friend of mine. So yeah, it’s a good fanzine. I saw a lot of faces that I knew.

Ok. Thanx.
