Spring Fever

Spring is here…the sun is trying it’s hardest to come out….

Hello there scenesters,
Well it has been ages since I wrote. Many, many things have been happening here in Melbourne town. Including a studio move from South Melbourne to St. Kilda.
I can hardly think of where to start.
Oh, first of all, I must congratulate Frank and Dianne for putting out the coolgrrrls zine and all the coolgrrrls out there who contributed. Hot stuff indeed. And my lordee, a picture of me on the cover! Wow! And I reside on the wall of my kitchen as Miss September on the coolgrrrls calendar too…How cool I feel like the star of September so I thought it was about time I dropped in a line!

It’s been an interesting week just gone…my grandma came to stay with me for a couple of days…right when the World Economic Forum was on. And I live practically on top of the casino where it was held. The area was like chaos. Protesters clashing with police, blood and violence, naked people running around the streets, road blocks, helicopters, Bill Gates, trapped politicians, cars spray painted, wow, my grandma wanted to go down and join in the protest! We did end up going up to the top of the Rialto and looking down on the spectacle but I think Grandma would have preferred to be right in amongst it. Thank god it’s over today, the helicopters can go home and I can sleep peacefully. It was fantastic to have my grandma to come to visit, all the way from Robinvale. We had a great time. Hi Grandma if you’re reading this!

Meanwhile it’s also been full on Olympic mania. The torch has finally made it to Sydney, only two days til it all starts, (I hope coolgrrrl Helen in Sydney is doing all right through this) … it just seems so strange to see news presenters from NBC talking with the Sydney harbor in the background. TV has just about become the Olympics. There is no way of avoiding it! I’m no huge sports fan, I did watch the AFL (Aussie Rules) Grand Final in a little bar, in fact now I’m bar grrrl there, first time I’ve been on the other side of the bar! I like cricket too, nice and larthargic in hot summers. I ‘m also witnessing some of the Olympics in the comfort of Melbourne. The Spain Vrs Chilli at the MCG. I’ve never seen a game of soccer in my life, should be different! The weekend before, Moler finally mixed down a 4 track ep with Mr. Tony Cohen. I think he used every effects box in Woodstock Studios. 2 days around the clock….I think the songs sound good but it’s hard to tell. He’s mixed the bass and vocals loud and I sometimes have the cringe factor listening to my own voice!
Bands….
Let me see….
Saw the Gamma Rays at the Evelyn. Those psychosurf, spaghetti western pals. I see so often. Mike Moler drums The Res Heads at the Punters Club. My god this band ya gotta see, debut gig. Absolutely hilarious. The lyrics certainly grab your attention. Check out the web site alphalink.com.au/~clem/twoshoes/resheads. Cashcow, Moondriven and the Cosmic Psycho’s at the Espy. Quite an evening! This was Cashcow’s first gig eva. And they sounded excellent. The genuine Polcat, julien moler, on guitar! (When is my side band gonna play you may be wonderin’! So am I!) Moondriven, were dreamy, crystal clear, best I’ve ever heard them play in the Gershwin room. The Cosmic Psycho’s in fine rockin’ form in the Espy front bar.
Crowd loving it…… one grrrl loved it so much she lost the shirt – I wasn’t too impressed with the guys who spat on her from the audience though. Gross.
Rowland S Howard at Cafe` Orange was a great gig too. A special hello to bassist Brian Hooper. Only 100 people squished into one little cate`, boy was it hot in there! It was also recorded live and will be released by Orange Records, on limited, sext, orange, 12″, vinyl. Definitely worth getting your hands on. Infact I’m in production for a new music show for CH31, which will feature some live performances at Orange.

Oh yeah, about the hair saga! I died it blonde, cropped it short, died it red, it’s got blackish tips, it’s an ever evolving art piece! Identity crisis…to be continued…
Well on that note I’ll sign off here, gotta meet up with my sister.

Stay cool won’t ya…
