Love Going to Hellacopters Shows

So, yesterday Hellacopters rolled into town, again. Company was Hives…but not me.Was thinking of going into the last minute, but the “new” Hellacopters-crowd makes me nauseous. I shouldn´t let that bother me, but maybe I am just getting old and lost my hipness along the way. Not that I think I ever had any, hipness that is.

But, with 4 attended Hellacopters shows this year, I shouldn´t be too dissatisfied with myself. I´ve seen their best show this year, at Moshable, and I got to have an evening alone with my man, who does not wear Acne jeans and does not think 2 fingers in the air are the coolest thing you can do with your hand, thank God! But Jeffrey Lee Burns and his Flaming Sideburns also rolled into town a week or two before. They also appeared at The Moshable event in April, which now seems to have been the best festival this year. Moshable was the “Thank-You-and-Goodnight”-show for Moshable Magazine and the big kick off for already existing Bad Afro Records. Flaming Sideburns have a 7″, a 10″ and a cd out on Bad Afro, but on the 19th of January,a split10″/cd with Flaming Sideburns and Hellacopters will be out. The sleeve is made by Nicke Hellacopter and should be a hot object. Flaming Sideburns is probably my favorite band to see live. And, now, a big bunch of kids think the same. Good for Flaming Sideburns. They just get better every time I see them and they deserve a big fan base. Some of their stageact is rehearsed, especially the guitar-posing, but they do it good and if you´ve never seen them before, you never could have guessed it. They´re so into it that you can´t imagine them having a life off stage. Speedo, the singer, has come out of his smokey-cell and has developed quite a stage persona. Nowadays, he loves stagediving and getting into the audience, letting the kids sing. On stage for an hour with 5 songs in the encore…and it has never been better. They´re tight and they won´t let a little mishap like a dead guitar ruin the show, instead theyinvent a song then and there with bits of pices of other songs while the guitarist runs to get another guitar. The place was packed when Flaming Sideburns played as it was their first gig here in the south of Sweden….and it was probably one of the best gigs I´ve seen at Smålands along with Demolition Doll Rods and Zeke. A “kättentaputus” to Lina for getting them to Smålands!

Flaming Sideburns played at Smålands in Lund with Thee Ultra Bimboos. Thee Ultra Bimboos are what HellCityHelen loathes and Anouschka loves; a true girl-band. I don´t really get the genre, what is specific for a girl-band that makes them different from a boy-band apart from the fact that they have tits?! Tits are great, don´t get me wrong here, but they don´t make play guitar better, or worse. The sounds isn´t different.Their approach to music isn´t different. No, I don´t get it…if you have to put a label on you, like girl-band/all-girlie (and you WANT to do it!), there must be something missing. I never heard the Maggots or the Makers label themselves as boy-band or all-boyee….If you put a label like that on yourself, you say there is something different about yourself and I thought that was exactly what the feminist movement was fighting…Anouschka though, is the Head at Thunderbaby/Thunderwoman Records, which is a label that only allow women on their vinyl or plastic. They have some great acts; Mensen, The Resentments, Diaboliks, Demolition Girl, Laundrettes, 4-Gazm….but the more I think about it, I don´t like the label all-girlie….

Enough about that. Thee Ultra Bimboos have just released a new album, “Four fans can´t be wrong” on among others, Thunderwoman Records. They have gotten a lot of publicity in Sweden after what is said to have been a super-show at HultsfredsFestivalen this summer, but they´ve been playing for more than 4 years. Released a bunch of 7″, appeared on compilations and released 3 albums, including the latest one. But, I never really care much for Thee Ultra Bimboos. Morten Deadbeat tried to convience me of their greatness but with no luck. I liked one song, “Pissed off” from their “Supermess” album, but really hated the rest…Too girlie vioce and the singer couldn´t really sing…and it wasn´t punk. So, I wasn´t expecting much from these Finnish ladies when they entered the stage. And, with that in my mind, they couldn´t loose. They were girly but they didn´t sound as whimpy and whining on stage, as on the records. They had a snse of humour. They seemed to like beeing on stage. They tried to teach the drunken audience some finnish words. The bassplayer was the coolest female bassplayer since Anna Wagner. “Pussycat Drive” and “Antonio” sounded pretty good live. But, no, I won´t buy their record. I will probably not travel a 100 miles to see one of their shows. It´s not my kind of music. It´s poprock with a lsd twist in a girlie dress. I don´t like lsd or pop, and I dress in raw dresses and I sing with a deep voice. The stageact was pretty timid, no motion and no rock and a rolling. I still like it fierce and it wasn´t.

So, it is Christmas. The stores are filled and I am in hiding. I am not a traditional girl with a big jolly family, but my cat Lukas is getting his ricepudding and his Christmas decorations to play with. That is about as far as I´ll go. But, on Christmas Day, the 25th, I will be going to Mejeriet for another round of the Bones. Club Massattraction is having a Christmas Party with a -bunch- of bands, which all but one have been up on Sweden@night the last year. It is up to you to figure out which ones and to bring your wallet to Mejeriet to see some punkrock and buy some hot wine punch from the new owners of the Mejeriet-Café.

See ya there and until then, have a Jolly One!
