Down and out in Melbourne

Hi there all cool ones,

It’s me again. Long time no update…almost 3 months…my god…you see I’ve been down and out in Melbourne town, nothing much exciting to tell really, I guess that’s why I haven’t reported anything for ages. I’m almost a retired rocker, haven’t played a show since last August and I’m going nuts. No job, no money, no seeing festivals, no gigs, no fun, my babe, no fun. What ever is to become of me?

Oh, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone…I know it’s a bit late but better late than never. I hope everyone had happy celebrations…I did.

I decided to head back to my home town of Robinvale to do some work on my parent’s vineyard or ‘block’ as the locals call it these past couple of weeks. It’s the height of summer and the work is hot and dirty. Picking grapes, packing grapes, it’s honest work and good for the soul (I keep telling myself) and I will get all those parking fines paid off eventually!

I even missed the PJ Harvey concert…goddammit…

BUT HEY! Just before I left for Robinvale, a friend of mine, Tim Bell-who took that lovely shot of me for the Miss September Coolgrrrls 2000 calendar, told me about some ‘casting’ for a Nokia Mobile phones magazine ad that he was doing assisting work for. They had seen a lot of models from the top agencies and weren’t happy with what was on offer. They wanted a more ‘street’ look. I decided, well, what have I got to lose and went along. I then traveled to Robinvale. There I was, working away on the grapes when I received a phone call from the city. The clients wanted me to come in for a second look. WOW. I jumped in the car and drove 5 1/2 hours straight back to Melbourne for a 5 minute interview. 170 people had gone through that day…I was hopeful that I might get an extra part or something but I got a phone call that night and, woah, they liked me. I had a ‘main’ part!! I was soooo excited. ME! A MODEL!!!! I had to hang around Melbourne for a few days until the shoot.

The scenario- me and this very tall male model, (I think I came up to his nipples) were to play the part of a couple living in a city apartment, we had been out clubbing all night, got home and decided to have a champagne, picnic breakfast on the rooftop, overlooking the heart of the city. I tell you, it was the best job!! It was so typical of a photo-shoot…all these construction workers from surrounding buildings having a good old perve! hee hee I don’t think I have ever been paid that much money before in my life! Now, I can pay off those parking fines and buy myself a new computer that I’ve been dreaming of. Just goes to show, anything can happen just around the corner. After the! shoot and considerable celebrating, I drove back to Robinvale to go back to work on the grapes and that is where I’m at. I’m working hard for the money, so hard for the money.

I am also sad to say, another of my fellow musicians died not so long ago. Sean Greenaway. A very untimely death, he was only 30 and had just released a new CD that he was so excited about. The band was ‘The Yesmen’. Sean had played in a few bands over the last ten years but my favourite was ‘God’ who had a great song called, ‘My Pal’. Such a great song. The chorus lyrics, I love…”You’re my only friend and you don’t even like me”. My sympathies I send to his family, friends and his fiancé, Noni. Tragically he died due to a heroin overdose. I tell you, I am so sick of that drug, it saddens me so much when ! I see talented, beautiful people getting sucked into its mind numbing clutches and dying from it. I just can’t believe how so many people I know are being drawn into it. It’s like an epidemic, like the Black plague…it’s everywhere. Rest in peace Sean. xx

On a brighter note, we can’t be all doom and gloom in Melbourne, can we?

The cricket season has ended….oh no…that means summer is coming to an end…and Aussie Rules football has started…oh no…winter will be upon me very soon! (Yeah we can be all doom and gloom)
My band Antibody is coming along fine and I’m doing some impressive lead breaks. When we are going to play live is anyone’s guess! It will be soon, it will be soon!

I’ve included some lovely pics of me at work in the packing shed. The other ‘stars’ in the pics are mum, dad, my sister, Linda and family friend, Janelle. Don’t we all look so glamourous!!

Well that’s about it for this most exciting of updates…no doubt I shall be writing very soon…there’s not much else to do after a hard day packing grapes!!

love to you all
