Le Tigre Hype
Club Quattro, Shibuya
Band: Le Tigre, BS2000
Le Tigre was coming to Japan at last!!! I always inspired by their political attitude and opinion And I’ve been admired Kathleen Hanna since teenager, I had a dream of doing an interview with her. I wrote her about it before the tour, and she said that Le tigre wanted to do an interview. Whoooo-peeeeeee!!!
I said hi to ladies before the show, I was SO happy they were SO friendly. We didn’t talk very much, but of course I gave them my zine Catch that Beat! It was like a dream, I realized my heart beating fast.
Their show was awesome. They danced some songs, it was pretty cool. I decided that I will try to dance with them next time. Big surprise was the phone call from Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto. Our language is not English, so we don’t understand the meaning of songs. Yuka explained about songs (“Yr Critique”, “Bang Bang” and “Slideshow At Free University”) in Japanese, her works were helpful and informative. I was deeply moved by one of the message, that is, “There are various groups in this world, and big one rules small one now. But small groups could overthrow the big one if they could be one”.
The slide show was also great. We could know many cool band like Bratmobile, The Need, Public Enemy and zines like Bamboo Girls etc… They asked me to translate the sentence they wrote into Japanese. I knew the meaning of each words, but it’s difficult to make sense for Japanese.
It was a totally rad kick ass show, and I have to tell you my highlight. I sang a song called “My My Metro Card” with Le Tigre on the stage. Can you believe that? But it’s true. Johanna had a sore throat, she couldn’t sing. And then, Kathleen asked me to help them. Of course, I replied, “Yes”. This song reminds me of the governor of Tokyo, Shintaro Ishihara. He is such a fuckin’ jerk like Juliani. I hate him, so I was glad I could sing this song. It was a great honor of me, and I’ll never forget that.
** THE MESSAGE FROM LE TIGRE ** in seeking specific technical information, we discover that behind the hysteria of male expertise lies the magic world of our unmade art.
