Sould Out!
Soulfly @ the Roxy – Hollywood, CA
Why is the Roxy always 100 degrees inside when it’s almost half that outside? God damn that place is hot! But who cares when you get to see an awesome band like Roadrunner recording artist, SOULFLY in a little place like the Roxy. I was unable to go to the Pantera/Soulfly/Morbid Angel show, so I was more than stoked to see that Soulfly booked a one-off by themselves (since they’re the one’s I wanted to see most on that tour). The show was amazing and the heat was blazing but well worth it.
Photoshoot Anyone?
The Anyone Den – Huntington Beach, CA
Yet another Roadrunner recording artist, ANYONE is done recording, producing, mixing and now it’s time for the packaging. Rockstar photographer, Greg Watermann was called on by Roadrunner to shoot one of their newest signees, ANYONE from Huntington Beach, CA. Having known the band for some time, Riz (vox & guitar) called upon me to model for the album artwork. Unfortunately, I heard that I didn’t make it in the CD packaging but some of the shots may be used in promos or on the website so keep your eyes open, you just may recognize someone. Look for ANYONE’s self titled debut to hit record stores this summer. For more information on the band, hit www.anyoneden.com or www.roadrunnerrecords.com.
It’s Alive!
Metal Tribute Night @ ROCK HARD – Live Bait, Long Beach, CA
Heavy Metal is Alive! Run to the Hills…Run for your lives! Hell yeah! Club ROCK HARD is my home away from home. This is the only club in Orange County that consistently kicks my ass. I caught the Metal Tribute show recently and loved it. I saw Mr. Crowley (tribute to Ozzy), Creeping Death (tribute to early Metallica) and Wrathchild (a very unique tribute to Iron Maiden). Wrathchild’s singer is a Chick! There she was in true Bruce Dickinson style with her spandex pants and tennis shoes doing the ol’, “foot on the monitor pose” hittin’ those high notes like nobody’s business. Somebody aptly dubbed her as Bruce Chickenson. If you get a chance to check them out…DO.
Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll
METAL @ Brick by Brick, San Diego, CA
Hopper and Hendo present club Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll every Wednesday night. What more can you ask for; $5 cover, live music, bikini contests, sponsor giveaways (Bullrider, SRH, Zong, Rock 105.3) and a bad ass metal DJ. That DJ would be BLACKIE, named after Blackie Lawless of WASP. This guy actually spins metal on vinyl! You have to see it to truly appreciate it. If you live in the San Diego area and want more info, just call 619-275-LIVE.
I Don’t Feel Tardy…
Vynegar and Two Hit Creeper @ School of Hard ROCKS – Hogue Barmichael’s, Newport Beach, CA
Now here’s a school the kids love to go to, Www.TheRockShow.Net’s SCHOOL OF HARD ROCKS. All ages, every Saturday afternoon. Finally, a place for all you cradle robbing rockstars to bring your under-age girlfriends to. And guess what? You can still have a beer! This is unheard of in OC. And the entertainment kicks ass! last month I caught Vynegar (who’ve only been together for 7 months and just opened for hed (pe)) and Two Hit Creeper (who’ve been working with Jay Gordon of Orgy and are about to be signed). This is my new Saturday afternoon delight…Beers, Burgers and Bands. Class dismissed!
My Prayers Have Been Answered
Sunday Mass @ Que Sera – Long Beach, CA
Sunday is no longer a day of rest for those about to ROCK. Www.JelloBung.Com salutes you with SUNDAY MASS every other Sunday night, “Pray you don’t miss it”. There’s nothing I like more than to see another club supporting heavy music since the fucking radio won’t do it. Sunday Mass offers the best of BLACK METAL, GRINDCORE, PUNK, CRUST and DEATH METAL. I went to the grand opening and what did I see…Janice Tanaka of L7, right in front of me. She was rippin’ shit up with her side project, Hammers of Misfortune. Also on the bill were, Dreams of Damnation and Shiva.
The OC Weekly Fashion Fiasco!
The Fashion Experience @ House of Blues – Anaheim, CA
OC WEEKLY’s annual fashion show which coincided with the annual Fashion Issue was held at the brand new House of Blues last week.
The event showcased Orange County manufacturers such as: Lucky 13, Billabong, Etnies Shoes, Flare for women, Vision Street Wear, DVS Shoes, Paul Frank, Toes on the Nose, No Fear, Rusty, Volcom, and many more. The evening included the wonderful DJ Danny Love, a live performance by the Speaker Junkies and a fashion show hosted by yours truly. The show went rather well considering how amazingly unorganized everything was (good thing I know how to add lib). The turnout was great (500+) and that truly is great because all the proceeds went to the Very Special Arts of California, a children’s charity. I’d like to thank everyone that attended and I’d like to send special thanks to Al Bane 4 Leather and his partner Jenner for making my custom leather ensemble. Please visit him at: http://albane4leather.knac.com

Yo yo yo Dog. It’s Barbie the Party Doll here to tell ya what’s up for this weekend:
Thursday, March 29th
Get your Rocks off at club ROCK HARD at Live Bait in Long Beach. This week’s performances are by Jesus Wore Dickies and Sonny Boy. You don’t want to miss this show. The first 100 people to wear Dickies pays only $6 cover and gets $2 drinks all night! There’s also a giveaway for tickets to see the Jimmie Van Zant Band. Don’t know who Jimmie Van Zant is? Sure you do, you just don’t know it. Ever
heard of Lynryd Skynryd? Nope, O.K., ever heard the song, “Sweet Home Alabama”? O.K., now you’re on the trolly. Anyway, you can win tickets to see Jimmie Van Zant of Lynryd Skynryd perform live at the Galaxy Concert Theatre in the Sweet Home of Santa Ana. He’ll be playing original tunes as well as some Lynryd Skynryd classics. For more information on ROCK HARD, visit www.therockshow.net
Friday, March 30th
There’s plenty to do this Friday. Speaking of Dickies…they’re playing at the Lava Lounge in Long Beach on Friday with Koniption Fit, Richmond Sluts and Cellblock 5 (21& Over). For those under 21, you have a killer show too. Chain Reaction has R.K.L., Retox, Dimwits, Bad Samaritans and the Co-Dependents (ALL AGES). I however, am going to try something all new. I heard about a great unadvertised show at King Neptune’s in Sunset Beach. The Dibs and LoFi Champion will be rippin’ it up. Rumor also has it that King Neptune’s has some swanky bathrooms and you know I have to check those out since I’ve been so fond of ralphing lately.
Saturday, March 31st
O.K., here’s the plan: School of Hard Rocks at Hogue Barmichael’s is hosting performances by Stayte and Electrance (ALL AGES) Daytime Show (2pm-7pm). Bring a change of clothes because if you go home, even if it’s just to change clothes, you won’t be able to pull this off. I know how you are, you’ll take a nap and call it a block buster night. Now we go down the street and around the corner to the Orange County Fairgrounds for the Arena Motocross Championships and junk food! Now you may change clothes and choose one of the following options:
1. Bullet Boys, Blank Generation and Saint Dog (former frontman of Kottonmouth Kings) @ the Shack in Anaheim.
2. Manic Hispanic, Motorsoule and the Undertakers @ the House of Blues in Anaheim
3. Flogging Molly @ the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana
4. Mr. Mirainga at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa
5. The Ziggens, The Crowd, The Fakes @ the Doll Hut in Anaheim.
6. Midnight showing of Spike & Mike’s Festival of Animation,”SICK & TWISTED” at the AMC at the Block in Orange
Sunday, April 1st
Soule Kitchen presents, “Bombshell B.B.Q.” at the Tiki Bar. You really can’t miss this show! Grrrl Power in full effect! This show starts at 3pm and rocks well into the night with performances by: Baggage, Relish, Betty Blow Torch, Boobie Trapp, Broken, Foxy, The Angoras, and Third Grade Teacher.
Sunday also marks the Grand Opening of club, “Heaven & Hell” at the House of Blues in Anaheim with super star DJ Danny Love being assigned as the resident spinner of sin.
Monday, April 2nd
Duran Duran is playing the House of Blues in Anaheim but I cannot afford the $65 dollar ticket. Hope it’s a good show. I’ll be going to a free show instead. Two Hit Creeper is playing the Troubadour and admission is absolutely FREE!
See you on the streets…
