Out and About….almost

Hey there all,

I am a very happy chick indeed today….even though it has been raining constantly for 2 days and doesn’t look like stopping… just got a call from my publisher who is trying to sell Moler’s song ‘Delicious’ to a Jean’s commercial. Here comes some money, here comes some money!! Finger’s crossed. I’m still trying to save for a G4 mac with built in DVD burner! I can hardly wait…I want it NOW!!

Good news in the ‘Antibody’ camp. We are recording at Birdland Studios on the weekend. Which means we are almost ready to unleash ourselves upon the world, well, Melbourne for starters….

Moler actually played a show at the Esplanade Hotel last weekend, our first show in 6 months…it was quite hairy actually.
You see Julien booked the show months ago and forgot to mention it to the rest of the band so you can imagine my surprise when I saw the ad in the local street press (julien’s as well). We had a week to get our shit together. Turns out that Xaos our drummer couldn’t do it because he had other commitments so we asked this young guy to play but when he heard the CD of songs we were going to do he told us, ” ahhh I think you need Keith Moon” 3 days left…no drummer. Matt who used to play keyboards with us, had decided to play with us on the night, somehow roped in one of our early drummers, Steve Boyle, to play. We hadn’t played with him for 4 years or something but he did do all the drumming on our album so he was our best bet. Problem was that he was too busy to be able to rehearse!! Julien, Matt and I had a couple of quiet rehearsals with no drums to remember how all the songs went and that’s it.
I can’t tell you how nervous I was. It had been so long since I had performed live. It was Good Friday- the 13th! Surely it was going to be disastrous!!
1st song…Steve had never even heard it before…audience waiting…I hummed the start of the song to Steve and counted it in….1 -2 -3 -4 It was fast…but it was energetic! The sound was good! Phew..that one over, 2nd song Steve knew. 3rd song, a little dicey. Hey, it was all going well afterall! By the middle of the set I was having such a great time, Steve’s drumming was awesome, the bass sound was massive, even Julien didn’t turn up too loud and Matt pulled out some wicked sounds out of a Juno 6 keyboard! I could have played all night! A couple of funny endings here and there but I must say, under the circumstances, it turned out to be a really fun gig and great to see all the pals out! I was so happy afterwards, I celebrated with a bit of an all night party back at my pad! Now I want MORE!! There might be life in the old moles yet!

Saw a ‘Magic Dirt’ play a while ago, I must say they are just getting better and better. Adalita’s voice has really developed. Dean, their bassplayer, couldn’t play that night so they had someone else filling in. He did a great job except on one song- the bass went out of tune….cringe….but yeah awesome show, awesome band.

Went to see noise experimenters ‘Danmatsuma’ play on Friday night at the Greyhound but just missed their set cos I got caught in ‘football traffic’ after an Antibody rehearsal ahhhhh.. (yes aussie rules footy is back in full swing) It was a special gig too cos Kumiko, the goddess singer, is going back to Japan tomorrow. We will all miss her, farewell drinks tonight. Lucky for them, they got to record at Birdland a couple of days ago, can’t wait to hear it. I did see the headline band play though…’Womnal’ who have been playing around Melbourne for years now. They had 3 drummers, 2 bassplayers, guitarist and singer. It was heavy…mmm…

Besides that I really haven’t been out that much to see live music, well nothing new, occasionally I might catch the odd glimpse of a metal band. I just seem to stay at home strumming BeeGees and Abba songs on my guitar or perhaps a few ales at the local RSL! What am I doing?? Lying Low? I’ve got to get a life!! I’ve actually crocheted myself a blanket in-between my musical frustrations!

Well that’s about it for now
gotta go eat, I’m starvin’
take care
