I Just Love the Big Apple

Hi,

Remember me? It’s Kiki. I’ve been in a bit of funk since the terrible events of September. Listening to The Strokes’ new album *does* cheer me up. You can read my review of this great musical find on our Sizzling CD’s page.

New York is still alive and glorious even in these tough times. I went dressed as a big furry cat to the annual Greenwich Village Halloween parade. Surrounded by police, it went off without a hitch, and the creative costumes, giant puppets, patriotic flavor, marching bands and happy crowds were lively and fun. I didn’t go to the Halloween Ball thrown by Motherf***er, but I’m sure it was absolutely fabulous, as I attended their party in September with Adena and had an incredible time. You can get more info. on their next soiree at www.motherfuckernyc.com Michael T. and Justine know how spin the glammest tunes and draw the glammest crowd.

And speaking of Absolutely Fabulous, the British comedy Ab Fab is coming back Nov. 12 on the Comedy Channel! Patsy and Edina are hilarious as fashion victims and doyennes of decadence, so there’s another reason to sign up for cable TV besides Sex and the City. As for sex and the City, the new Toilet Boys CD is pretty hot and I’ll have a review also posted soon. For more sex and intrigue, go see the new David Lynch film, Mulholland Drive. Mysterious and sizzling!

So what else is new in the Big Apple? New York grrrls are sporting tweedy accessories, red white and blue touches, sexy leather boots, and lots of lip gloss. This is the time of year we also head north to see the changing colors of the autumn leaves and sip hot spiced cider at our friends’ country weekend houses.

In times of recession, snuggling with your sweetie is always a good cheap bet. Pop some corn, order some Chinese food, spread the Sunday New York Times out… light a maple-scented candle, eat some fresh figs, drink some wine… Call your parents on the weekend. Hang an American flag in your window, make your Christmas presents this year, talk to a neighbor, flirt with a fireman. Find something to read, listen to, or watch that makes you laugh. Spend a Saturday looking at art for free at the Chelsea galleries. Go see an Off Broadway theater show. Explore Brooklyn on a sunny afternoon. Write a letter. Brush your cat. Life’s simple pleasures are where it is at right now for me.

Cheers,
Kiki
