ART ART ART ART…. So hello there all you Coolgrrrls out there. I just thought I’d write a little blurb to inform you of an upcoming event that I think all you coolgrrrls who have an artsy side to ya may not want to miss.

It’s the SO CAL UNDERGROUND art Exhibit. Why should I care about this you ask? I mean I’m a musician right? Well, I’ll tell you. I came across this artist by the name of Jason Maloney about a year ago. (don’t ask how) but anyway, I sweet talked (translation: BEGGED) to be able to acquire a piece of his art which now proudly hangs on my bathroom wall. None of his stuff was for sale at that particular time to the public, but he was nice enough to make a deal with me (the deal: “LADY, take your teeth out of my arm and I’ll let you have it!) yep, he let me have the piece (and he didn’t call the police on me…lol) BUT not only did he not get a restraining order on me, he also invited me to his next exhibit which will be showing some of his new stuff, as well as some oldies of his.

Why do I like this guy? Well, for me… my perception of his art (not that I’m a critic…. BUT) he takes the mainstreamed, boxed, generic, everyone is already on the band wagon shit… and warps them into something you can appreciate. Such pieces depicting our good old SID as “Saint Vicious”, or his “Jena Jameson” portrait… with her lying on her side smoking crack (and I thought it was a good diet that kept them gals so thin!).. I’m hard to shock, obviously- but some of his upcoming projects have shocked even me. He’s sick… that’s why I think I like him so much. We in society are so blinded by what or who they tell us is so cool at this moment. Jason does the opposite, he makes you THINK FOR YOURSELF!

Jason’s art will be shown at Square Blue at Bradford Gallery from October 12- November 3, 2002. Noon to 6pm.

Square Blue at Bradford Gallery
355 Old Newport Blvd.
Newport Beach, CA
949-548-1101

Other artists to be featured are: Robert Bellum, Blaine Fontana, Jason Grace, Aaron Kraten, Martha Rich, Tianyl Wang.
SEE YA THERE!

MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC:

So I got to play a show this last week at Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa. We played with an old school punk rock band called the UK Subs… maybe you heard of them? Anyway, they rocked, we rocked, El Nada Rocked, and we had such a good time. Although I was terribly tired to get up and go to my new job the next morning. All was fine though.

I also played a show for the American Liver Foundation with the Wax Apples and Kelly’s Lot, Shut up Marie, Zoey’s Trip… I felt like I had walked into Lillith Fair, and all I could think was, Oh My God these chicks are gonna H A T E us! But they didn’t. Seems like all these girls got a bad ass streak in them somewhere. I enjoyed their music, and the diversity of the show. I hope to do a show with Shut Up Marie (who can get pretty grungy on you with her soulful voice) and hopefully with Kelly’s Lot again (maybe my acoustic project?) Anyway, I wore my Coolgrrrls shirt proudly on stage that night (thanks to Frank).

If you aren’t doing anything on NOVEMBER the 16th, Boobie Trap is playing with DOA at the Showcase theatre in Corona. IE… the I.E. … no seriously in the I E…

As for this weekend, I may be strolling through the Willie Nelson show with my husband. He loves Willie… and not cause his name is WILEY (which is like Willie, but not) hey… he supports me and my music, why not support him and his? My ROCKABILLY man…. mmmm. I just can’t seem to get past that 18.60 “convenience charge” at the Verizon Amphitheater… I don’t understand, “CONVENIECE CHARGE” what the fu** does that mean? And WHO IS THIS CHARGE CONVENIENT TO?

Toodles,
Franki
