My New Place in Canada

Whew.
I just spent the long weekend (in Canada) moving and painting. I’m so excited my new place is sooo much nicer then our last. We only moved across the hall so it’s a bit pathetic. Not a BIG move but it has made a world of difference. I live with 3 people, my boyfriend, best friend, and Rob. All 4 of us were living in a 3 bedroom which was fine but now my boyfriend and I have the master bedroom with our own bathroom and walk in closet which is very nice! No more 4 people sharing a shower. Ick.

Other than that I have been having very unhealthy obsessions lately. Right now I’m addicted to frienster.com which is quite embarrassing. I figure once I reach 100 friends I’ll never go back again because I’ll get bored with it. I also heard they might start charging money for it which means I will for sure never go on it. Pay money to be on some online site? No thanks. But seriously what is the deal with all these
makeoutclub.com clone sites? Makeoutclub was the first one I think. Then there’s been lipstickparty.com, lipstickandcigarettes.com, madradhair.com,onlyundiesclub.com, and of course the newest and best friendster! The thing that’s nicer about friendster is it isn’t just for hipster scenester kids. Like your mom could be on friendster. I think the other sites are pretty much all the same except of course only undies where your picture has to have you just in your undies. Argh, I have been spending too much time on line. I get bored at work easily and it’s a bad habit. But seriously does anyone know how many of these makeoutclub clone sites there are??

I’ve also been really into this miniseries on TV, Taken. It’s about alien abductions and it’s been on all summer on CBC. I don’t have cable and only get like 3 channels so if there is something good on it is pretty exciting! Monday nights are Taken night for me and my boyfriend we usually get some sort of take away and eat in front of the TV. I won’t even pick up the phone during the 2 hour period it’s on television. Yes, I realize I’m coming off pretty pathetic but I think it’s the boyfriend syndrome I don’t know. You know the syndrome when you are single and you are always out hanging out with friends, going to shows and parties, next thing you know you get a boyfriend and you never go out. Well, my boyfriend and I live together so it’s very easy to stay home and hang out. We both like board games and old school video games which twiddles away countless hours of fun. Or maybe I’ve just changed. I still go to shows and parties but just not to the same extent as I used to.

I’ve spent this summer bumming around Vancouver, swimming in the ocean lots and I even went camping once! I joined a new band this summer as well. We haven’t agreed on an exact name yet but we have written a bunch of songs. It’s always exciting to be in a new band. This is my fourth one. I’m also still in the Ewoks and Zsofia Ewok just moved into my old apartment right next to me and Jenny so we all basically live together. I’ve always wanted to be a band that lived together. Hahaha.

I’m listening to the Sounds right now. I won their CD in a contest and I still haven’t got it. Boo! This is the most random update I’ve ever written. But that’s my mood right now. I’ve been listening to a lot of my older records, things I bought when I was younger like bis, Pulp, the Smiths, basically a lot of brit pop… even some Michael Jackson and Boney M. I think I’m trying to rediscover my record collection. I’ve gone threw so many phases since I started collecting records that I’ve got an album for every mood.

I just went on pollstar.com and noticed there are quite a few rad shows coming threw Vancouver in the next few months. I always do this… list the shows I wanna go to at the end of every update…I’m so predictable.
Sept 28 – The Ravonettes @ Richards
Sept 30 – Goldfrapp @ the Commodore
Oct 5 – BRMC @ Richards
Oct 6 – Ladytron DJ set @ Sonar
Oct 8 – Billy Idol @ Orpheum

Oh yeah, and my favourite new Vancouver band is Fuck Me USA. They are hott shit! Snotty synth-punks who will soon have a record on Global Symphonic. I want to know if you are an American if you are offended by that name? I think it’s actually quite a compliment. Apparently the origins are from when Vietnamese prostitutes would write FMUSA on their butt cheeks to allure American soldiers to their services. Hmm… we all have a story.
Short and sweet, this update and myself,
xox Mar
