Shoutout to all my Girls
Hi all of you Coolgrrrls out there. I just thought I’d do my update now since as of next Wednesday, I will be down for the count for a little while. I have had the MOST INCREDIBLE month so far! Hopefully I will have some great news to tell you in the next few months, as I am talking to an A&R rep at a reputable record label (who will remain nameless until we sign the deal) who actually sought me out and found my email through my articles on Coolgrrrls.com! So, I may be a signed artist soon! I am definitely excited, and keeping my fingers crossed. Cross yours for me too!
I received MANY MANY CD’s to review lately. I have a personal rule for myself when it comes to reviewing CD’s. That rule is to remember that I am NOT A CRITIC, I am a musician. I am a consumer. I am a fan of music, any kind. If it’s good, I’ll listen, and if it’s bad, I’ll listen once. SO, I am open to listening if you want to keep sending them. I will get to them when I can!
SO- I received this CD by a band called the Nekromantix out of Europe. They have released an album titled “Return of the loving dead” on Epitaph (at least that’s who sent it to me in the mail). I wanted to see them at the Hootenanny this year (they were really the only reason I would’ve wanted to go – besides the Cadillac Tramps). I did however get to hear them via “phone calls from friends on their cell phones” (thank you!) I am a psychobilly fan, and for some reason have always loved the music. This band however, has brought Psychobilly music to a new level, they (along with Tiger Army) are the top of the heap of Rockabilly/Psychobilly bands. In the past, I have heard their music and always been compelled to dance, and move, but this album is by far THE BEST! I don’t think anyone could turn a deaf ear to this album. I tested this theory with a friend of mine who will only listen to rap music (I know, poor guy, hehe) anyway, I put it in his CD player in his truck while we were driving and not only did he ask who the band was, he won’t give me my CD back! This CD is a hard driving, upright bass beating, head bobbing, get off your lazy ass and go crazy CD! The vocals are phenomenal. I LOVE IT! The opening song is called “Nice Day for a Resurrection”, which is perfect to get you in the mood for the ride to come. However, this is only a prelude to the musical adventure you will to go through. I mean, come on ANYONE who sings about killing cheerleaders, raping prom queens, after establishing a motive in the lyrics, well – you’ve got my vote! And Subcultural Girl… I think that they wrote that song especially for me, I LOVE IT!! I could go song for song with this band, because there are NO bad songs on this album, but I won’t. If you want more info on this band you can go to www.nekromantix.com. Cool website too.
Now as far as the surgery that I talked about in my last update, that is coming next Wednesday … so I will tell you what I went through when I am recuperated. As of now, I am scared, but luckily will be able to keep my cool this weekend since it is my birthday weekend, and I am playing a few shows with my band. Anyway, just wanted to give an update to you guys (you know how good and regular I am about these updates!!!)
Until next time,
Toodles!!! Franki
