Hey everyone, my name is Tippi, and I’m a singer/songwriter from Glasgow, Scotland, UK. I just released my debut album in the UK at the end of last year and had great fun touring it around the whole of Britain. Too many late nights, and too many beers are not good for the waistline, but your only young once, right? I will be keeping you informed with what’s happening in the music scene in Glasgow and Scotland.

At the moment, Glasgow has such a vibrant music scene. Last year saw the emergence of Franz Ferdinand and Snowpatrol. They have got to be two of the best bands ever to come out of Glasgow. When this happens in a small town it’s amazing. It gives all of the musicians a real reason to continue the fight to be heard. Both these bands started off performing in venues in Glasgow like King Tuts Wah Wah Hut. I have seen many a great band there, and played many a great gig there myself! If you ever visit Glasgow, that’s the venue I would suggest you go and visit.

So, what am I all about I hear you say…Well, I play a mean tele and love to rock out! My influences range from the mighty Zeppelin, to Neil Young, to The Cure, to Paul Weller. A few years ago, I got to be Paul Weller’s tour support when he toured Ireland. It was a really inspiring and amazing experience. As a ‘wee’ girl, I had always dreamed that one day I would perform on the same stage as him, so when it happened …ohhh ….you could imagine! The best part of the gig was that when he went back onstage for his encore, he took me with him! We sang ‘May you never’ by John Martin ….oops …sorry, I slipped away there, I was back on stage with him.

The summer is upon us in Glasgow, and what a joy it is to see and feel the sun! To be able to go for a walk in a t-shirt is just fantastic. I always find the summer very inspiring, and tend to write loads of songs in this season. Usually when I write, I like to go to a log cabin in the north of Scotland and be surrounded by hills. This is especially good in the winter, when the lochs have a beautiful mist that just lingers on the top of the water. Not very rock ‘n’ roll I know, but hey it works.

So, Glasgow in the summer time? next month sees the return of the West End Festival. This runs over 10 or so days and features live music, art fares, and general ‘arty’ goings on. Then in July, we have the ultra fab T in the Park. The festival (tinthepark.com) runs over two days in one of the most picturesque places in Scotland called Balado, Kinross. The festival will see over 60,000 people each day, and the highlights this year will be the fantastic Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stoneage, Greenday, our very own Travis Doves, and James Brown to mention a few. I have had the pleasure of playing T in the Park many times, and it’s a great gig. If you go to the festival for the two days, you usually need a week to recover.

At the moment, I’m rehearsing a bunch of new tunes with my band, and I’m working on a very exciting new project – details to follow soon. My album has just become available to buy on itunes and amazon.com! So all is good on the Tippi front. Check out my website a taster of my songs … tippionline.com.

I’m off to London next week for a few days to hang out and catch the breeze. For once, I’m just going down to chill and hang out. Usually when I’m gigging in London, I never get time to go wondering, as after my gig I’m usually straight back on the bus and onto the next town. I can’t complain though, as touring is the best thing in the world. Every night, a different town and a different venue – the joys!

I’m very pleased to be a part of cool grrrls, so thanks for the invite Frank!

Cheers
Tippi x
