Sarah Fimm
Hi Everyone, My name is Sarah Fimm. I am a musician and sometimes an artist who lives just outside of Woodstock, New York. I was asked to put down some thoughts here and the basics about what is going on, which is sometimes the hardest thing in the world to explain.
We just recently finished creating a video under the direction of a gifted human being by the name of Erik Montovano. It is a music video for the song ‘Everything Becomes Whole’ from a new album just released called ‘Near Infinite Possibility’.
The video was born out of real stories of victims of human trafficking. Overtones of mental illness and threads that run through the piece that are meant to illustrate the psychological pitfalls we can fall into in the context of abuse. We re-enacted them in the historic, dark setting of the Bearsville Theater.
On the first day, when the tornado hit us, I was sure that something special was going to happen. Fifteen minutes after lightning and trees had punched holes in the roof, I was still sure. After the storm had passed over, leaving destruction all around us, I looked up and saw a Falcon spreading her wings, drying them in the sun.
The team of twelve artists who helped to orchestrate this creation were all of the highest possible talent and character. I found myself in a bathtub by the river covered in dolls thinking, ‘how lucky am I to even be here?’ Everyone was smiling despite the fact that we were re-enacting horror.
Somehow the apparent difficulty of the subject matter fell away once we began. When you have a car battery hooked up to your body, you want to make sure that the people behind them have a serious respect for human life.
The lead actor J.W Cortes, a handsome marine and musician, who I met only hours before we begun, made it very easy and comfortable. He has a compassion about him, that I feel really served the piece oddly, since it isn’t immediately visible unless you are looking.
The video made its’ premiere on September 23rdat the Woodstock Film Festival at the Bearsville Theater, where I had the opportunity to sing after the screening, create music in that singularly unique place, and be in the company of good solid people who just want to help art be visible.
I am very happy to be a guest here, and I will be sharing more news with you very soon.
With much Love
Sarah Fimm
