Rebecca Kane – Introduction

Hello all Cool Grrrls!

My name is Rebecca Kane and I am an artist on many levels. Music is near and dear to my heart, so when I saw this opportunity to write a blog on female musicians, it is a dream come true.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I currently live in Raleigh, North Carolina, although I am originally from a small town called Qualicum Beach, on Vancouver Island, Canada. Being raised on an island left one to their own devices, mainly because there was nothing to do for miles around. I submersed myself in singing and writing. I used to love walking to the beach and I’d make up songs along the way, then sing to the ocean once I got there. My mother had an old manual  typewriter that she let me use, and I would pretend I was a writer, plunking my little heart out with the stroke of each letter.

As I got older, I still continued writing and became fascinated by people like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Chrissie Hynde, and Annie Lennox. I wanted to be like those women, and so I started to focus on writing songs instead of stories. I didn’t play an instrument, and finding someone to create a song around my melody was proving to be difficult.

I knew I had to learn to play an instrument if I was ever going to give a life to these songs. I bought myself an acoustic guitar and taught myself to play. It was frustrating at first, however I was determined to rock out and leave my imprint on the world. I wrote a couple songs and played them at open mic. I listened to the critiques that other artists gave me and before I knew it, I had my very own band, and that opened many doors for me.

To this day, I can say I am an accomplished musician, writer, photographer, singer and artist. My idea is to spread love throughout the internet through this monthly blog. I want to use all my talents, squish them together, and who knows what next month will bring… so stay tuned, my Pretties!!!

xoxo

Rebecca

  2. Hi Rebecca,

I just ran across your blog introduction and wanted to tell you how great I think it is! As a local label alternative founder, musician, artist and fellow transplant to the area, I am always glad to see people reaching out to encourage the public and help reinforce to girls that they can do whatever they choose in the arts and everywhere else!

I came from Muscle Shoals, Alabama where there was quite literally nothing to do and very few people that I could relate to on an artistic level. So, I took all of those people (11 total) and moved them all here with me 4 years ago! Since then I started No More Fake Labels, began playing with the band Western Civ (whom I had worked with for years as an engineer and manager) and joined the Chatham County artists guild.
I’ve found a great place for myself here and am glad that you have done the same. :)

Keep me posted on your projects. Those of us who live in art and music need to support each other!

    Talk Soon,
    Misty

  3. Perfect intro. Rebecca!
As someone who had had the pleasure of getting to know Rebecca well, I can assure readers that this beautiful woman is exceptionally multi-talented. She garnered a strong and loyal following as a musician here in Raleigh and surrounds, and her talent as a graphic artist is impressive.

This woman is of a conceptual mind set; she is one who can imagine and interpret ideas brilliantly.

I am honoured to call her my friend. She believes in — and walks the talk of the idiom “follow your dreams”!

This blog will grow and be delicious. Please follow her!
