Score!
Happy 2012 Everybody ! Here’s to a healthy & success filled year for all.
Score !
For my first blog of the year, I wanted to share my scoring/composition work, which began when I met SAP, aka Scott Allen Perry, back in 2006. SAP is one half of the Perry Brothers, aka SAP & Ponceman (his actor brother), who’s comedic based videos have received millions of views on the web. The “aka’s” run rampant around here. lol
Scott is a brilliant independent filmmaker, editor, actor, & writer, as well as one bad ass musician. We first met via myspace (remember them? haha) after Scott had seen a video of me performing live with P-Funk online. From our very first meeting we were like two peas in a pod creatively. I had no idea how much our friendship and respect for one another would grow over the years. He is sincerely one of the most special people in my life to this day. We often joke that we must share the same brain. When you connect with someone that enables you to grow creatively and do things you never dreamed of, it is priceless and rare. Even though Scott moved away from Los Angeles in late 2010, we are still able to collaborate on any music/video project thanks to the internet and file sharing. I should also mention that Scott co-wrote two songs on my EP, American Bulldog…’Flang Flang’ & ‘Stress Bitch’.
Scott’s brother, Josh ‘Ponceman’ Perry, has acted in countless films alongside Bruce Willis, Danny Trejo & more, appeared in VH1′s “Free Radio”, FUEL tv’s “Stupid Face”, and is the star of youtube’s sensational and often controversial comedy series “Retarded Policeman”, which just began airing new episodes after a long hiatus. Having down syndrome has not stopped Ponce from living his dream. From movie spoofs, to music videos & original comedy shorts, the Perry Brothers videos never disappoint. Whether I am scoring music or appearing in one of their videos, it is always loads of fun.
Usually the process goes like this ; SAP sends me a video with no music roughly edited. I watch and laugh ten times. We communicate about the style/sounds/tempos/direction/instrumentation. To this date I don’t think we’ve ever disagreed. Then some type of bed gets laid down; drums, a click, etc. Transitions and cues are set in place. SAP handles most of the piano based parts and drums. Then I put my stamp on it ; guitars, often bass, sometimes key bits or other instruments. I send him the files to mix. We tweak, watch, add some, tweak some more, and it’s done!
When I think about all the different projects we’ve collaborated on, it is quite remarkable how easy and well we work together. Scoring has truly become another passion of mine throughout the years, as every project is a challenge. And I love a good challenge. It has really helped me grow in my songwriting, musicianship, and overall creativity. I am very proud of the work I’ve done and look forward to doing much more. Below is a series of different short films/videos that I’ve been involved with.
I encourage all musicians and artists to “think outside their box” and venture into new territory any chance they get. It is good for one’s soul and creativity.
I hope you enjoy the videos and get your laugh on!
peace~ dirty jenny

The Perry Brothers latest short, “Chuck Norris Training Camp”, was a blast to do the music for. SAP & I co-scored this one, taking our inspiration from 70s tv show themes filled with stank wah guitar, hi-hats and loads of horns. Being the funk freak I am, this was right up my alley. Ponce as Chuck Norris is hysterical.

Also below is a link to “Medallion Mondays”, a comedic based 2 season web series that SAP & I co-scored together in 2010. It stars Ponceman, Scott, and the entire staff at Medallion Media in Illinois, in addition to numerous guest stars such as Big John McCarthy (of UFC fame), Road Warrior Animal (from WWE), & famed author Staci Boyer.
