Karina was born in Cordoba, Argentina. She first got into music as a drummer, and played for a few bands while studying Graphic Design. She moved to Hong Kong in 1996, where she worked as a designer. In early ’98 she became a lead singer in Flux, an alternative rock band that won a few band competitions in Asia, and rocked the agitated, beer-drenched pub circuit in Hong Kong. Flux moved to Melbourne for a year in 2000, and changed their name to Hyperstatic, there they recorded a single produced by Lindsay Gravina, (Nick Cave, Moler, The Living End) Karina now lives in Argentina, still sings and plays guitar in Hyperstatic with a new local line-up, and she gives you the latest news on all the cool bands and events in the wild Argentinean rock scene! |

Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Mar “with one r or 2 rrs”-is our exclusive Pacific Northwest representative. She works as an Associate Producer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on their most rock’n'roll show RadioSonic. Besides writing for cool grrrls Mar has also written for local rags Discorder, Some, and her own zine Icky Poo. Into Expo 86, Chuck Taylors and 80s cartoons, Mar is an active rocker grrrl who is currently in the organ inspired riot grrrl band the Ewoks. In previous lives Mar sold fake watches on the street and wrangled audiences for a cheesy TV show. Her favorite bands are The Pointed Sticks, the Smiths, Hi-Fives, The Saints, Billy Idol, The Jam, and, as she says, “the list goes on…” She’s a big time music lover whose favorite TV shows include the Monkees and her favorite movie is a tie between Starstruck and Rock n’ Roll High School. Like another of our CGs, she loves all things “mod,” including new wave boys! |

Our new correspondent from Germany (Bavaria) is Marion a “starke deutsche Frau” with a personality to match, she writes about music, concerts, skateboarding…She love to travel cos Germany is not big enough for her, slept in a coffin in Japan, wrestled with Crocodiles in Australia, nearly died in Fiji. Been there done that, bought the t-shirt, if you can think of it I’ve done it. If you need help just click on her. Marion’s thing is music not just any music, it’s got to be hard, dark, banging hardcore from the underground scene, if it’s in the charts it’s not for her cos she’s the queen of the underground hardcore scene. |

Multi-coloured hair & floral tattoos, deemed a classy rock goddess by Hong Kong journalists – bbchris grabs at life’s opportunities – one of which is to write about the HK music scene for coolgrrrls. Living a nearly vegan existence in a meat and money orientated society, bbchris will swing her Fender around town plus a handy digi-camera to bring you a taste of this fast-paced city. Bbchris conveys an explosive energy when on stage and is the most intimidating HK female musician at present. Having a Chinese mother & English father has truly warped bbchris – one of her Cantonese songs won the “Best Alternative Song” at the 2001 Golden Sail Awards – a local prestigious event organized by C.A.S.H. (Composers Authors Society of Hong Kong) – the local equivalent of ASCAP/PRS etc. – yet all the press could comment on was the leopard-skin bra she was wearing… |
