The new year has brought me interesting new finds in Nashville. For starters, I happened to hear DJ Terry Grant at the what is now former Liquid Lounge on New Years Eve. He is one of the few DJs I have run across in this town that really knows how to kick it. When I first arrived, I sized up the crowd and let the alcohol seep into my system. As I was standing by the wall, I looked up and saw the hottest dj ever. After midnight, the music was started to freak. All I can recall is what I dubbed "ghetto rap on speed." Whatever the DJ was doing up there tripped me out. So cool. The rest of the music was techno dance stuff and kept me moving no matter how hard I tried to stay on the wall.

He has an album out and I advise any of you dance, trance, dream techno types to check it out. www.cracksmokinhooker.com

Antonia, who has been living in England and getting great reviews, came back to the States to visit her family. On her way to New Mexico, she stopped through Nashville to wrap up some loose ends and visit me! We managed to come up with a brand new concept for her website and just launched it the other day. All you London girls definitely need to check out the rocky poppy musician and her rocking show. www.antonialive.com

Rocketown has now opened its doors downtown on 6th avenue. On the south side, this former electrical storehouse contains the Sixth Avenue Skatepark designed and built by well-known skate park architect Scott Douglas, featuring an 11,000-square-foot riding area for riders (skateboarders, in-line skaters & bmx riders) of all ages and skill levels. The northern side features the Empyrean Coffeehouse, designed to hold 300-400 people, offering multi-ethnic food, compliments of JJ's Market, and specially blended coffees. And finally, holding the 2 sides together, the multi-function music venue Rocketown will hosts dance parties and live performances. Says Executive Director Roger Thompson, ''A lot of people are going to have preconceived notions about what this will all be, but when it's all programmed and when we have great music going on and the skate park is rockin' and people will be hanging out in here, I don't think it's going to be what people think it's going to be.'' This is definitely a unique place for downtown Nashville and I am wicked excited. Says Carrie dreamily, "All those skater boys in one place...." www.rocketown.com

A monster snow storm hit Nashville last week forcing the city to shut down within minutes of the first flakes. It took people 4 hours to drive a typical 15 minute drive. Unbelievable. The city is just not prepared for that kind of storm. We got 7 inches, which is VERY uncommon. It didn't snow one time last year. I was stuck in my house for 3 days, because my car was stuck in the driveway. Talk about cabin fever! And as I am writing this, another snowfall is coming down. This is truly a winter to remember in Nashville.
